The Morse Museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), including jewelry, pottery, paintings, art glass, leaded-glass windows and lamps; his chapel interior for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago; and art and architectural objects from his Long Island estate, Laurelton Hall. The Museum’s holdings also include American art pottery, late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings, graphics, and decorative art.

Jeannette Genius McKean (1909–89) founded the Museum in 1942, naming it for her industrialist grandfather. She and her husband, Hugh F. McKean (1908–95), the Museum’s director until his death, built the collection over a 50-year period.
